Year 3 Autumn 2 – Stop-frame animation

The children will use a range of techniques to create a stop-frame animation using tablets. They will apply those skills to create a story-based animation and will conclude with learners adding other types of media to their animation, such as music and text.

 

Online Safety


The children will learn to use search technologies effectively, appreciate how results are selected and ranked, and be discerning in evaluating digital content in the context of identifying advertisements online. They will understand how websites use advertisements to promote products.

Useful Vocabulary
 
animation - is a way of making a movie from many still images. The images are put together one after another, and then played at a fast speed to give the illusion of movement.
 
flipbook - A paper book with drawings that when flipped back quickly, look like they move
 
stop frame animation/stop motion - a way of animation which makes it look like still objects are moving. Clay animation is a good example of how stop motion is used.
 
frame - each individual still picture that is used in an animation
 
sequence - the order that images are shown in.
 
setting - the 'stage' or background for a scene.
 
events - the main things that are happening in an animation
 
onion skinning - a tool that shows the previous frame faintly to help you see where to draw next.
 
consistency - keeping things the same
 
import - bringing something in from somewhere else. You can import a photo from your computer to an animation program.
 
transition - the process of change between 2 frames (they could fade in/out or slide in/out)
