Spring 2 2025

Monster Phonics
The children will continue to learn new sounds in Monster Phonics, reading and writing words including new sounds. We will practise Year 1 common exception words and High frequency words each week which will continue to come home as weekly homework. 
English
This half-term we will focus on two texts. The first The Odd Egg By Emily Gravett. Where we will make predictions, step into role of the character to create thought bubbles and create our own non-fiction reports of an egg-spotters guide.
The second text will be Stanley’s Stick by John Hegley where we will build up to writing our own version of the story. 
Geography
How does the weather affect our lives? We will look closely at the weather across the Summer season and make comparisons with those observations we have made throughout the year. We will take weather readings using a range of equipment and record data for this. We will look at the weather across the different continents and how it is different. 
 
PE
This half term the children will build on their previous dance skills to complete an animal themed dance. The theme will be The Zoo
RE 

This half term we will be finding out what parables are, and that Christians believe these stories were told by Jesus to teach his followers about God. The children will learn about the parable of the Lost Son and what this story teaches many Christians about God, including God being loving and forgiving. We will think carefully about what it means for Christians to ask for forgiveness from God and the promise that people will be welcomed back into God’s family. The children will also learn the story of Jonah and the Big Fish and find out about how many Christians put their beliefs into practice through worship.

 
Art

This half ter,m the children will learn about Pop Art. They will work together on collaborative art, develop creativity by creating their own art and learn about the work of toy designers.


Computing
Data and Information - Grouping data
This half term the children will be introduced to data and information. They will begin by using labels to put objects into groups, and labelling these groups. The children will demonstrate that they can count a small number of objects, before and after the objects are grouped. They will then begin to demonstrate their ability to sort objects into different groups, based on the properties they choose. Finally, the children will use their ability to sort objects into different groups to answer questions about data.
Maths
We will continue our learning of Place Value, moving on to numbers to 50. partitioning into tens and ones and estimating numbers to 5o on a number line. We will look at length and height and then weight and measure.  You can help your child at home by playing the spat game below where children can explore numbers to 50. 
Science
The children will continue to learn about animals including insects. We will draw and label the structure of different animals. finding out and grouping animals into carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and sorting into vertebrate and nonvertebrate animals. 
History

Who is the greatest history maker?

The children will continue to find out about some key people from the past and find out what they are known for and what has made them a history maker. We will have discussions as a class to compare important people in history and give reason why they are remembered for both good and bad events. We will discuss who, today, might make a mark in history and be remembered.

Design Technology
The children will learn how to join fabrics using gluing, stapling and pinning.  They will then select and apply these techniques to join pieces to make a puppet and add embellishments.
 
PSHE
 
With Jigsaw Jack we will be thinking about ' Heathy Me' as the children learn about making healthy choices, hygiene, medicine safety and road safety.
