Spring 1 2026

Writing text : As writers we will be writing a fiction text based on the book Paradise Sands by Levi Pinfold. The story is a dark fantasy story depicted withy hauntingly cryptic artwork. Curlews will be writing a descriptive opening, formal letter in role, dialogue between characters before creating their own prequel.

Reading Comprehension: As readers we will be developing our reading skills in decoding, inference and sequencing. We will be using a non fiction text to practice these skills whilst developing an understanding of British politics.

Maths: As mathematicians,  we will continue developing number skills and fluency through a range of activities. Using Mini maths sessions we can practice specific skills as a fluency activity before applying the same skill within a reasoning problem.

Science: As scientists, we will be exploring the concept of evolution and inheritance. Children will investigate the relationship between variation and characteristics. As a final outcome children will explain and present the theory of evolution.

Religious Education:  As theologists we will be investigating Hinduism. pupils will build on their learning about the Hindu worldview and way of life with particular progression from the units on ‘What do Hindus believe God is like?’ and ‘What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today?

French: As linguists, we will be learning about My Home (Chez Moi). By the end of this unit pupils will have the knowledge and skills to present both orally and in written form about where they live and which rooms they have and do not have in their homes in French. 

 

 

Geography: As geographers we will be exploring Fair Trade.  This enquiry enables pupils to understand what international trade entails – the manufacture, selling and buying of goods and services between countries through exports and imports – and the fact that trade has been operating for thousands of years.


History: As historians, we will be exploring the Ancient civilisation of the Mayans. An investigation into different aspects of the Maya civilisation of Central America, which reached its zenith around AD 900, allows pupils an opportunity to appreciate the achievements of a society that existed contemporaneously with the late Anglo-Saxon period and the impact 
of the Vikings in Britain.

Design & Technology: As designers we will continue to research and analyse a range of children’s toys. They will design and construct a steady hand game and assemble the electronics and complete an electronic game.

Music: As musicians, we will be siunging together to develop a deeper understanding of socail change. Children will be developing an understanding of how music can portray emotion, meaning and connect people. 

Art: Focus: Drawing - As artists, we will continue our drawing journey  this term by using their observational skills to draw a crumpled bag.  We will look carefully at the shape and shadow of the bag and consider how we can create this accurately. We will be reflecting on the drawing skills the children have developed (line, tone, texture and perspective), and the different mediums for drawing including pencils and charcoal.  They will select a combination of these to develop ideas from sketchbooks to finished artwork.

PE: As athletes, we will be developing skills in Hockey. Through small sided games, children will develop an understanding of the game rules and tactics in defending and attacking.
