English (Writing): As writers, we will be exploring the life of Kaspar the cat who is onboard the infamous Titanic. We will be using non fiction and fiction writing opportunities including: letter writing, narratives and newspaer articles to explore the voyage of the Titanic. Our writing outcome is to plan, draft and publish a newspaper report.
English (Comprehension): As readers, we will be exploring the Story of the Titanic beginning with the construction of the ship, those that sailed upon her and the unfolding of worldwide catastrophe. We will continue to develop our reading skills over the term.
Science (Living Things - Life cycles and reproduction): As scientists, we will be comparing the life cycles of plants, mammals, birds, amphibians and insects. We will investigate asexual reproduction in plants and compare sexual and asexual reproduction.
Geography (Why are mountains important?): As geographers, we will locate the largest ranges of mountains around the world. We will demonstrate our understanding of fossil formation and compare and contrast mountain ranges.
Jigsaw (Relationships): Over the term we will be discussing building and maintaining positive realtionships through a range of situations or scenarios.
Computing (Databases): Children will be exploring flatfile databases and how they can enable us to organise data. Children will use tools within the database to answer questions and create graphs.
Maths: As mathematicians, we will be using our fluency and reasoning skills to recognise the properties of shapes, draw and name angles and read or plot co-ordinates in geometry. In addition, we will continue to develop a deeper application and understanding of the four operations, fractions and number in arithmetic.
History (Why was the mining industry so important to the North East?): As historians, we will be researching the evets that lead to the Industrial Revolution. The class will explore coal mining in the North East region during this time and focus on the lives of children at this time. Childrenm will compare and contrast the changing landscape of Amble from 1800's to present day.
DT (Electrical Systems): As Doodlers, we will create a unique electrical system and produce a DIY guide that details how to make an electrical product.
RE (How can following God bring freedom and justice?): Using the bible story of the Exodus, children will discuss and explore the connections between the story, thjoughts and beliefs of Christians in how God can help in times of difficulty.
PE (Invasion Games): As athletes we will be developing our skills in the sport of hockey. We will be learning the rules of the game, developing shooting and passing skills then linking it to a game situation.
French (La Classe): Children will continue to develop theirv understanding and application of the French language based upon the classroom environment. Children will be able to orally discuss, read and write in French whilst drawing upon previously learnt French vocabulary.
