The children will look at the different weather around the world and why it is so different. We will look in detail at Antarctica and find out how one of the coldest places in the world is a desert.
PE

Athletics: This half term the children will practise running. They will do this in different directions and within a game. They will run individually or as part of a team.

RE

How should we care for others and the world and why does it matter?

Children will encounter stories and texts about different people being unique and valuable, making links to Christian and Jewish worldviews and the belief that God loves all people. They will revise their knowledge of Genesis 1 and what this account of creation tells Christians and Jews about caring for the world.  Children will think carefully about different ways that Christians and Jews care for people of the world, including giving to charities, and how this action links to teachings found within the Bible and the Torah, taking time to consider why people who are religious and non-religious should care for others and look after the natural world.

Music

Learn how to recognise, perform and compose music that has contrasts in the different musical elements; rhythm, pitch, dynamics, articulation, melody and timbre.

Maths

The children will complete our number work with place value to 100.  We will finish our learning this year with measurement by looking at time and money.  You can support your child at home by talking about coins and notes and helping your child to recognise these.  We will be learning to tell the time to the hour and half hour.

Making connections: Investigating science through stories

The children will broaden their understanding of plants and animals. We will gather and record data to find out if taller trees have larger trunks and recap the features of different animal groups. We will build waterproof animal homes with natural materials and sort birds according to their diet.

History

The children will continue to learn about their local history. Finding out about Warkworth Castle and the area surrounding it. We will go on a visit to the castle where we will explore the building and what life might have been like there.

Art

Focus: Drawing

This term the children will develop their creativity with a whole class drawing activity linked to shapes and textures.  We will look at some well known Optical Art and talk about what we can see.  Our focus this term is drawing and ‘line’.  The children will be exploring what line means and looking at the continuous line drawings by Picasso.  Then they will create their own drawings in the style of Picasso.  The children will use their knowledge of primary and secondary colours to paint Puffin Paintings for display at the Amble Puffin Festival.  Then they will have the opportunity to select different materials to create their own art.
