Spring 2 2024/2025

English
This half term we will be reading and responding to the novel 'The White Fox' by Jackie Morris.  We will be exploring the meaning of words in context, making inferences and predictions and summarising ideas as we read and enjoy the story.  In our Writing lessons, we will be writing descriptive passages, guides on how to taste tea, letters and a non-chronological report about tea as we read and enjoy 'Cloud tea Monkeys' by Mal Peet and Elspeth Graham.  We will continue to access a range of texts during our weekly class reading sessions.  Please continue to support your child at home by reading at least four times per week and learning half termly spellings.

Science
This half term we will be learning about light and shadow.  We will be identifying examples of light sources and learning that light is needed to see and that its absence causes darkness.  We will investigate reflection and shadow formation and explore how shadows can be used to entertain in the arts, creating shadow puppets to recount how different people work or experiment with light.

Geography
This half term we will continue to explore the question 'why are forests so wet and deserts so dry?' by taking a closer look at both types of biome.

 P.S.H.E

History
This half term we will continue our work on Bronze Age Britain.  We will be learning about Bronze Age monuments and investigating the question 'what is the secret of the standing stones?'

How do festivals and family life show what matters to Jewish people?

Children will build on their knowledge about Jewish world views and ways of life. They will recap work on Shabbat and deepen it by considering how different Jews today mark it. They will understand that Jews are diverse – beginning to use the language of Orthodox and Progressive. They will explore Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Pesach to build up their understanding of festivals and ideas of forgiveness, remembering, and freedom

French
This half term we will continue our work on speaking, reading and writing the French words for musical instruments.
Art
In Art the children will revisit their learning with Mrs Renton as they draw and paint puffin artwork for the Puffin festival. They will have the opportunity to create their own art using the skills and ideas they have developed. We will also be looking at craft makers.
